Behaviour Support Funds
Eligibility
To be eligible clients must meet the following criteria:
- Have an acquired brain injury
- Be considered non-compensible (i.e., no TAC, VWA or other insurance)
- Live in the Barwon region
- Be aged between 6 and 64 years
- Display challenging behaviour
All applications that meet these criteria will be considered, but priority will be given where:
- a client’s accommodation or support system is at risk of breaking down
- the health of the client or others around them is at risk
- no other funding sources are available
What can the funds be used for?
This funding can be used in diverse and flexible ways. Examples include purchase of a technical watch to promote medication adherence and associated behaviour stability; provision of attendant care to promote or enable positive social interactions and behaviours, specialist behaviour assessment, and training of carers and support staff. A clear rationale for the expected benefits in terms of behavioural outcomes is required on the application form.
What funding can be applied for?
A maximum limit of $3,500 per package applies; there are no minimum limits.
How will funding packages be allocated?
A panel consisting of staff from the Regional ABI Project and from the Department of Human Services will allocate packages. Typically, most of the funding is expended in the first round. Subsequent applications will be considered until all funding has been distributed. Service providers will be kept informed of the status of funds through the ABI Network Meetings. All applicants will receive written confirmation of the outcome of their application.
Evaluation
As a condition of receiving funding applicants agree to maintain records of expenditure, provide data to the Department of Human Services Victorian Quarterly Data Collection (QDC) Information System, and to complete evaluation surveys.
