Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is concerned with understanding and investigating the thinking (cognitive), emotional, and behavioural changes that can occur following an ABI. An assessment can take 2 to 4 hours to complete, and sometimes needs to be completed over two sessions. Typically, assessments require an interview with the client and family, and a series of tasks that assess speed of thinking, memory, concentration, language, and planning skills.

Assessments can help in many ways including:

  • to assist with diagnosis, and
  • to guide treatment and planning for the future (e.g., rehabilitation, strategies to help with everyday activities, decision making)

Locations:  There are two assessment sites: The McKellar Centre (Geelong), and Lyndoch (Warrnambool)

Eligibility: People living in Barwon South West who are aged 6-64 years, do not have compensation (e.g., TAC or Workcover), and have a diagnosis of ABI or strong evidence of suspected ABI.

Costs: no cost to clients who meet eligibility criteria.
