Training
The Regional ABI Project has a training calendar designed to increase the skill level of service providers working with people affected by ABI. Click here for the Regional ABI Training Calendar 2012.
Sessions are often of half-day or full-day duration.
Commonly-presented topics include:
- Orientation to ABI (explaining the condition and service system)
- Managing challenging behaviours
- Dealing with complex presentations (cases of ABI complicated by intellectual disability, mental illness, and/or alcohol and other drugs)
Specific topics are often presented, for example:
- Working with adynamia and low initiative
- Working within family settings
We use expert trainers from around the state to run the sessions. These include neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, family therapists and drug and alcohol clinicians. Our aim is to provide participants access to highly-skilled clinicians with a wealth of practical experience.
All training sessions have a cost associated with them; and all sessions are subsidised by the Project in an effort to avoid cost prohibiting participation.
